What we collect

We only collect what you choose to give us:

• When you report a problem: what you were trying to do, what went wrong, your state, and (if you add them) your LGA, the step it failed at, the date, and a short description. A WhatsApp number is optional.
• If you ask us to check in: your name and WhatsApp number, so we can follow up personally on how your registration went. This is optional.
• Anonymous counts: to build our public picture of registration problems, we keep tallies (for example, "40 people reported the portal failing" or "24 reports from Lagos"). These counts contain no names or contact details.

We keep simple, anonymous counts of which pages are viewed and which buttons are used, to understand what's helpful and improve the site. These counts set no cookies and collect no personal information.

Cookies. If you agree to it, we also use Microsoft Clarity, a service that shows us anonymously how people move through the site — for example which parts are confusing — so we can make registering easier. Microsoft Clarity uses cookies. We ask your permission first, and you can say no; the site works exactly the same either way. We do not run advertising trackers, and we never sell your data.

What is never recorded. Anything you type — your name, your WhatsApp number, and what you write about your problem — is blocked from these recordings. It is never captured or sent to Microsoft Clarity.

Why we collect it

To help you get registered, to improve our guidance, and to document where registration is failing so those problems can be raised with the people and institutions able to act. Contact details are used only to follow up with you.

Who can see it

Your personal details — your WhatsApp number, any follow-up contact, and anything you type — are kept private and are seen only by the Nigeria Votes team. They are never shown on the website. Only the anonymous counts (never your personal details) may be shared publicly or with journalists, observers, or partners.

How long we keep it, and your rights

We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above. You can ask us at any time to see what we hold about you, or to delete it. In line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, we aim to handle your data lawfully, fairly, and securely.

A note on getting help

If someone helps you register — a volunteer, a friend, or our team — share only what you're comfortable sharing. You never need to give your NIN, PVC number, or password to anyone at Nigeria Votes. We will never ask for them.
